Project Background
As downtown continues its reemergence as a dynamic environment to live, work, and play, we began exploring a vibrant community gathering space. In 2021, the City purchased the property at the corner of 21st Street and Magnolia Avenue thanks to a generous grant from the Virginia Outdoors Foundation. From there, we began work with the community to plan and develop what has been temporarily coined the "Town Square" - stay tuned for naming updates!

Complete Phase 1 construction
Completed the major construction of the space, including concrete and utility work.
Spring 2024 Timber Frame Build
Partnered with local timber framers & VMI to build the market pavilion.
Fall 2024 Timber Frame Build
Partnering with the local timber framers to build the cover for the stage!
Fundraise to Complete Project
Fundraising continues to fund later project phases to complete the overall project!
